Drug Uses

Maxalt is utilized to treat acute migraine headaches with or without aura that comes with a sensation of flashing lights, wavy lines, dark spots in grownups. the medicine cannot stop cluster headaches.

Usage

Kindly follow the usage instructions of your doctor while on Maxalt medication. Read the instructions on the medicine label for detailed information. Please consume a whole glass of water with Maxalt. Maxalt can be ingested thrice every day (every 8 hours if required). A single dose of Maxalt can be taken when migraine symptoms develop. The second dose should only be taken if the symptoms of migraines persist. However, the second dose should be spaced at least 2 hours from the first dose. The dosage should not be more than 30 milligrams in one day.

Drug Class and Mechanism

Maxalt is categorized as a selective serotonin receptor agonist. It aids to reduce the migraine headaches by narrowing the blood vessels of the head.

Missed Dose

Maxalt is taken according to the requirements of a person. There is no concern about a missed dose in this medication. Maxalt should be taken when the migraine symptoms appear.

Storage

Keep Maxalt at room temperature, between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C). Keep Maxalt away from kids and pets safely and also in a clean, dry, dark, and cool place.

Warning/Precautions

Doctors do not recommend using Maxalt if you are allergic to any component in it or if you ever had chest pain, ischemic heart disease, blood flow or heart conditions, irregular heartbeat, stroke, or unstable high blood pressure. Also do not use the drug if you are on ergot alkaloids (e.g., ergotamine). If you have used a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) (e.g., phenelzine) in the past 14 days or any other serotonin receptor agonist (e.g., sumatriptan) in the last 24 hour, Maxalt is not recommended.

Explain all your medical history in detail with your doctor before commencing any new medication. You should not miss telling about any OTC or supplements you take. Under certain medications or situation, you will be observed regularly to check your response or possible side-effects to the medicine, for that you may be advised to perform some tests, it is recommended to do that and follow the procedures suggested by your doctor.

Maxalt may raise the risk of getting dizziness or drowsiness. This risk greatly develops if you combine it with alcoholic beverages or some other medicines. So please stop taking such adverse affecting food/drinks at least until finishing Maxalt. Tasks demanding good mental attention should be avoided during a migraine or Maxalt Medication.

The use of Maxalt in children below 18 years is not advised as its safety is not confirmed.

It is not a medicine for headaches other than migraines. In such cases please consult a doctor.

Pregnant women, women preparing for pregnancy, and breastfeeding mothers should take advice from a doctor before taking Maxalt.
